Something Completely Different: Dallas Dr. Sketchy

I just happened to hear about an event today that sounds cool: a Dallas Dr. Sketchy event perfect for an additional bit of Halloween weekend creativity (for adult artists). I've heard alot about these rather fun figure drawing sessions (NYC, Seattle, Vancouver, Austin), but haven't had the opportunity to attend one until now. It looks like there's a session this weekend at City Tavern on November 2nd:

Dallas Dr. Sketchy, November Session: Ghouls n Girls
Sunday, Nov 2 4:00p
at City Tavern, Dallas, TX
Price: $10 - $15

Join us for a special post-Halloween Dr. Sketchy. Ghouls and Girls, Drawing and Prizes

"Dr. Sketchy's is what happens when Cabaret meets Art School" A creation of Miss Molly Crabapple in NYC that has spread across the globe, finally Dallas has Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School.
Ok so what's this all about anyway?
Well, just show up at one of our monthly sessions with your paper, easel or drawing board or whatever and any dry medium of your choice (dry mediums are pencil--charcoal--pastels--watercolors are ok too etc.)
NOW this is where it gets good! We supply the hottest most fabulous outrageously delicious burlesque superstars, roller derby babes, amazing contortionists, and other assorted local interesting muses for your drawing delight. As if the eye candy and sketching madness wasn't enough, be prepared for a heavy dose of fun.
Games and contests? Yes, there will be some.
Prizes? Of course, many.
Drinking and debauchery? You bet your sweet little ass.
So stay tuned to our calendar for our monthly sessions!

In case you're not already familiar with the Dr. Sketchy events for artists, check out the links for more info. It sounds like these will be running monthly -- YAY!! Maybe consider the Dallas sketchgroup meeting Sunday mornings as the warm-up. ;)

School project, c&c appreciated

Hi all,

I'm doing my first serious concept art project for school. I would appreciate any feedbacks from you guys. I posted a thread on conceptart.org, and will update it several times a week as the project rolls on. I've finished the initial versions of character sheet, weapon sheets, and vehicle sheets, and am trying to crack the environment concept. Any comments would be appreciated! Thanks lots,

Grace

Events in February...

I've just come back from the NYC Toy Fair (check out some of the cool action figures that will be coming out over on action-figure.com), and I do believe some of the Dallas sketchgroup game artists may still be at the GDC (Feb 18-22) over in San Francisco. But, there is at least one event in the Dallas area next weekend that some Sketchgroup artists might want to check out: ConDFW.

ConDFW 2008 is "A science fiction and fantasy event" taking place in Richardson Feb 22-24. Artist Donato Giancola is an Artist Guest of Honor. If you're into reading/watching Science Fiction and Fantasy, there will be a nice variety of authors and additional scifi/fantasy artists to check out as well, with Peter S. Beagle of 'The Lost Unicorn" fame as Author Guest of Honor (BTW artist David Cherry from Ensemble Studios is also listed as attending).

That's about all that I know going on for the rest of February...if anyone in the group has any additional event info that they'd like to share, please post a comment and I'll update this post so we can all see it.

17th Worldwide Sketch Crawl

"SketchCrawl is a day to get together with artists around the world and within your city to sketch the world around you. If we can get a group of people together to do this, it would be the first time Dallas joins in on the SketchCrawl. For more information, go to http://www.sketchcrawl.com"

Jehu Campos at UTDallas is organizing this event for Dallas.

This would be another great outing for everyone, and there should be plenty of more crawls to come.
